They also measured antioxidants like GSH, catalase, and SOD activity.

Interestingly, the recovery group showed a significant improvement in antioxidant system activity compared to the EMF group, but not to the control group.

Discussion:

The study demonstrated that EMF exposure increases oxidative stress in the brain and liver tissue samples and disrupts the antioxidant defense system. The increase in oxidative stress was caused by the EMF-induced free radical generation, which overwhelmed the antioxidant defense mechanisms of the rats. The decrease in enzymatic and non-enzymatic antioxidant activities in the EMF group can cause damage to cellular structure, DNA, and proteins, accelerating the aging process and leading to the development of various age-related diseases. The results of this study support the need for protective measures against excessive EMF exposure and highlight the importance of maintaining a healthy antioxidant defense system to mitigate the potentially harmful effects of oxidative stress.
