This is based on the assumption that users will maintain this distance during regular use. However, in reality, many users, especially children, often hold these devices closer, potentially absorbing levels of radiation that exceed government guidelines. So much so that there was an alert from the EHT, highlighting the fact that virtual assistants expose children to untested levels of radiation that can be dangerous in the long run. 

The Amazon Echo Dot manual explicitly states that the device should be installed and operated with a minimum distance of 20cm (about 8 inches) between the device and your body. This is an important point to note as it highlights the potential risks associated with close proximity to these devices. It’s a clear indication that even the manufacturers acknowledge the potential health risks associated with RF radiation. Despite the convenience and utility of AI assistants like Alexa, it’s crucial to be aware of the potential health risks associated with their use. 

Here are some practical steps to reduce exposure to EMF radiation from devices like Amazon Echo:

  1. Distance Is Your Friend: Keep the device at least a few feet away at all times. The inverse square law of physics tells us that as we double our distance from a source of radiation, we quarter our exposure.
  2. Reduce WiFi Radiation: Turn off your WiFi at night and consider using a WiFi Router Guard. This can reduce the radiation emitted by around 90% without affecting the speeds.
  3. Get An EMF Meter: This tool can measure the amount of EMF radiation emitted by devices in your home, including your Amazon Echo device.

So while AI assistants like Amazon Alexa offer numerous benefits, it’s important to use them responsibly. By maintaining a safe distance from these devices and taking steps to reduce EMF radiation exposure, we can enjoy the conveniences of modern technology without compromising our health.
